Need a recognised diagnosis to unlock support at school, college or university?

Our Full Diagnostic Assessment provides a complete, accredited evaluation of your child’s learning profile, carried out by a qualified specialist.

If your child meets the criteria for dyslexia, you’ll receive a formal diagnosis alongside this highly detailed report with information crucial in supporting your child at school, college and university. Currently, our formal reports can also be used in funding applications for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) in higher education.

This assessment gives families the clarity and documentation needed to move forward with confidence, ensuring the right support is in place for long-term success.

What A Formal Dyslexia Assessment Involves

1. Parent and/or Student Consultation (30 minutes)
A relaxed, informal meeting (either in person or online) to explore the learner’s educational journey so far. We’ll discuss strengths, concerns, relevant background information, and school experiences.

Information will also be sought from other stakeholders—including teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals—to build a fuller picture of the student’s profile and ‘normal way of working’. This helps ensure the assessment is tailored to the learner’s individual needs and educational context.

Please note: Before the assessment begins, the student must have had a routine eye test within the last two years to rule out any visual issues that could be affecting learning. A brief visual screening questionnaire will also be completed to support this process.

2. Full Diagnostic Assessment (3–4 hours, with flexible scheduling)
A detailed, one-to-one session using a full range of standardised psychometric assessments. These tests explore the underlying cognitive and literacy-related skills necessary for academic progress and are designed to provide a clear, evidence-based profile of strengths and difficulties.

The assessment usually lasts 3–4 hours but can be split across two sessions at no extra cost, depending on the learner’s age, stamina, and attention needs.

All assessments meet the guidelines set out by the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) and are conducted by a qualified specialist teacher holding an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC).

3. Comprehensive Written Report
You will receive a detailed, formal report (typically around 30 pages), which includes:

  • A full breakdown of standardised test scores with clear explanations

  • A clear, professional conclusion as to whether the learner meets the criteria for a diagnosis of dyslexia

  • Personalised recommendations for both school and home, including teaching strategies, reasonable adjustments, and access arrangement considerations

  • Information on how the report can be used for applications such as DSA (Disabled Students’ Allowances) for higher education, where relevant

The report is suitable for sharing with schools, exam boards, and other professionals involved in supporting the student.

4. Post-Assessment Consultation (30 minutes)
We’ll meet again to talk through the results, explain the conclusions, and discuss the report in full. This is a chance to ask questions, reflect on the findings, and explore clear, practical next steps to ensure the right support is in place.

Who is this service ideal for?

  • Students aged 7 to 18 who are struggling with reading, spelling, or writing despite good teaching and support

  • Learners who show a significant gap between their verbal ability and written work

  • Young people who avoid reading or writing tasks due to frustration, fatigue, or anxiety

  • Students who are bright and articulate but underachieving in literacy-based subjects

  • Children who have developed coping strategies that mask underlying difficulties

  • Learners who have inconsistent test results, especially in literacy and comprehension

  • Students who work slowly, have poor working memory, or seem to process information less efficiently than peers

  • Children who display low self-esteem or emotional distress around schoolwork or homework

  • Families seeking a formal diagnosis to access support such as:

    • Exam Access Arrangements

    • Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP) applications

    • Specialist tuition or school-based adjustments

    • Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) for university

Why a full dyslexia assessment matters?

  • Understanding unlocks support – a formal assessment provides clarity on how a student learns and why they may be struggling, paving the way for effective help.

  • Stops the cycle of frustration and self-doubt – undiagnosed dyslexia can lead to low confidence, anxiety, and a belief that a student is “not clever,” when that’s simply not true.

  • Improves outcomes across the curriculum – literacy affects every subject. Getting the right support early helps students achieve their full academic potential.

  • Enables access to legal entitlements – a diagnosis from an APC-qualified assessor can support exam access arrangements, EHCP applications, and DSA funding in higher education.

  • Guides teaching and learning strategies – the assessment offers personalised recommendations that help schools and tutors adapt their approach to meet the student’s needs.

  • Protects wellbeing – struggling in silence can lead to disengagement, poor behaviour, or mental health difficulties. A diagnosis often brings relief and a sense of being understood.

  • Empowers families and students – knowing what’s going on equips parents and learners to advocate for themselves with confidence and clarity.

  • It’s never too late – even older students benefit from knowing their learning profile, especially before transitions like GCSEs, A-levels, or university.

“The report was so thorough and professional. It gave us exactly what we needed to advocate for extra time and support in school. My daughter felt seen and understood for the first time.”
