Early Dyslexia Screening & Literacy Profile
For children aged 5 to 7 (Reception to Year 2)
In-person, one-to-one specialist screening

Is your child struggling, but still too young for a full assessment?
This early screening service is designed to gently explore your child’s educational development, offering clarity, reassurance, and practical next steps — before gaps widen or confidence is lost.
Ideal for children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, this supportive, child-friendly session identifies strengths and challenges in your child's learning profile and identifies early signs of dyslexia. This screening builds a clear picture of how your child learns and the support they need to meet their potential.

What’s Included in the early literacy profile?
1. Parent Consultation (30 minutes)
A relaxed, informal meeting (in person or online) to understand your child’s learning journey, strengths, and any concerns. This helps tailor the session to suit your child’s individual needs.
2. 1:1 Screening Session (45-60 minutes)
A one-to-one session using specialist tools and engaging activities to explore:
-
Phonological awareness (how sounds work in words)
-
Letter–sound knowledge
-
Spelling and reading strategies
-
Working memory and processing skill
-
Handwriting and motor coordination
-
Confidence and learning attitudes
3. Written Summary Report (1-2 pages). A professional written summary of the screening outcomes, including learner strengths, challenges and practical, personalised recommendations.
4. Verbal Feedback & Next Steps (30 minutes)
We meet again to talk through what was observed — highlighting your child’s strengths, areas for development, and helpful strategies to use at home or share with school. We can also discuss further support, or full assessment options, if appropriate.

Why is Early Screening Critical?
Early Screening:
-
Identifies potential difficulties before they become entrenched – why wait until your child is falling behind or losing confidence? Early screening helps catch issues before they impact progress across the curriculum.
-
Explains early literacy struggles in a gentle, age-appropriate way – helping your child (and their teachers) understand their learning profile without stigma.
-
Protects confidence and engagement – timely support can prevent the frustration, low self-esteem, and behaviour issues that often arise when a child feels they’re not keeping up.
-
Empowers parents to request the right support from school – with clear recommendations grounded in evidence.
-
Encourages patience and understanding from everyone involved – when the root of a challenge is recognised, responses can become more supportive and constructive.
-
Make a meaningful difference, without a formal diagnosis – practical strategies can begin straight away.
-
Supports long-term success – early intervention is proven to reduce the risk of disengagement, school refusal, and emotional difficulties linked to learning struggles.
